How much history can you learn from a song? Join professors Lloyd Kaplan and Dr. Tom Shaker to explore the stories popular music tells about the 20s, 30s, 40s & 50s on Tuesdays at 2 p.m.

 

On September 20, hear songs about Prohibition and Women’s Rights.

 

On September 27, explore music about the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression.

 

On October 4, discover tunes about World War II and Suburbia.

 

On October 11, come for melodies about Teenagers and Civil Rights.

 

Lloyd Kaplan is a musician, Professor Emeritus in the CCRI music department, and an instructor for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Dr. Tom Shaker is a radio DJ, a documentary filmmaker, and an expert on Rhode Island jazz.
