“Before I wake” is a horror movie about a couple who adopted a boy with a special power; whenever he sleeps, his dreams become reality. But so does his nightmares. I never thought that I would end up crying while watching a horror movie. Not out of fear, but out of pure sadness and joy. The movie was beautiful, emotional and terrifying at the same time. I felt like it accurately depicted on how fears can affect everyone’s dreams and nightmares (especially towards younger children). The story keeps you engaged, as it makes you ask questions like “will the mother help her adopted son or go against him?” and “why does the boy keep having nightmares about a certain monster?” It also keeps you emotionally engaged with the characters as well. Sometimes you would feel mad towards a character’s actions, and other times you’ll pity them. There’s mystery, creativity and heart put into this movie!
