This one is a bit of a step down from the last two MonsterVerse entries. On one hand it has a more ambitious concept, a deeper sense of mythology and lore, and a MUCH better soundtrack. On the other hand, it has a weaker human storyline, more annoying cutaways from the fights, and a surprisingly weak villain. Ghidorah is undeniably cool, but he doesn’t accomplish really anything throughout the movie. Same goes for Rodan and Mothra. The fights overall are not as good as the previous film’s fights, and the CGI is worse as well. Despite this, the fights are still good and the movie has beautiful cinematography to back it up. Other than the iffy color grading, this film is gorgeously shot. It also has solid acting, a few masterful scenes, and a very good handling of its monsters. Overall, a good entry to the MonsterVerse even if it is a step down.
