The Last Wish is a collection of short stories about a man named Geralt of Rivia that was written in 1993 by Andrzej Sapkowski. The short stories act as small prequel stories that set up the characters, world, and lore behind the main Witcher series novels. There are in total, seven short stories, and I liked all of them for the most part. My only real complaint about the book is that the timeline of the stories can be very confusing to understand. You should come to understand the timeline by the last story, because the author basically tries to make it obvious, but if you missed some, or skimmed through some of the important details in the previous stories, you may find yourself lost. Surprisingly enough, the Netflix adaptation of the series makes this same mistake, but I think it’s easier to understand because you are watching it, instead of reading it. My favourite story in the collection is the one titled The Last Wish, because I felt that there was a lot of character development that took place. Overall, I enjoyed the book very much, and I rate it a 8/10. Like I said above, the only thing that really holds this book back is the timeline of events. Because of this, I would actually recommend the Netflix series “The Witcher” to someone who wanted to get into the books because the first season of the show covers the entirety of the Last Wish book, and makes it easy to digest.
