In Field Notes on Love, Jennifer E. Smith brings you into the lives of two people that seemingly will never cross paths. However, whether you call it fate or destiny that brings them together, Hugo and Mae are stuck on a cross-country train trip without having met before. Regardless of their homes being on different continents, varying family lives, and diverse plans for the future, the two seem to understand each other better than anyone has before. While life on the train is blissful, life outside seems to oftentimes get in the way of each teenager’s plans. As the unlikely pair embarks on the adventure of a lifetime, they learn what they truly want from life and what it is they have been running away from. I highly recommend this quick read to those who enjoy the exhilaration of first love and growing up.
