The book Rain Reign by Ann M. Martin was extraordinary, if a little bittersweet in my opinion. The story of an autistic girl with an obsession for all things homonyms has the authentic feel of an author who understands a sense of what they’re writing, something I feel is especially important if you're trying to accurately depict and convey a character's story. You’re really able to connect with Rose, seeing exactly how the things and events in the story affect her, and allow you to gain a sense of attachment with the story and the characters. Another thing I also found quite interesting was the chosen viewpoint, how we get to see the way the story develops through the eyes of Rose Howard, especially in the sense of being able to better understand and see the difficulties and struggles Rose endures on a daily basis, not to mention the story in general. This also happened to succeed in keeping me sucked into the text, eager to find out what happened next, though leaving me all the more gutted by the proceedings. Anyone like me who has a heart the size of the moon for dogs would feel the same. Overall, while this was definitely one of the more "sad" and bitter types of stories, I think it was really able to convey that sense of “real-life” aspect well, and in the end I would recommend this book to someone looking for a fairly short book with a good strong message.
