"Blade Runner 2049," directed by Denis Villeneuve, is a science fiction film that follows the story of the original Ridley Scott classic, "Blade Runner," and further builds upon its world and characters. The film follows the story of Officer K, (played by Ryan Gosling) who works with the LAPD in the near future as a 'Blade Runner,' or a cop who tracks down illegal Replicant androids and decommissions them. K, being a replicant himself, finds the world that has been constructed for him shaken when he discovers evidence of a past that he was never programmed to have. Gosling as K executes a phenomenal performance as a stoic loner; the audience is sure to feel the tension of this nearly-broken man at every twitch of his eye. Villeneuve directorial craft is evident throughout the entire film too, where he builds upon the world created by Ridley Scott in a way that is both faithful and fresh, allowing the viewer to truly immerse themselves in the dystopian and ruined world that K finds himself in, all with the aid of photo-real CGI and an excellent score composed by industry veteran Hans Zimmer. Sure to be a modern classic and a hit with lovers of sci-fi, "Blade Runner 2049" should find its way on the list of any filmgoer who wants a moody and gripping experience.
