I thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie “The Help” due to its depiction of the harsh reality of racism during the 1960s because of the education the movie provides to a large audience. Yes, The Help was a hard movie to watch given the nature of the topic of the film, but it provides much importance to modern day America as we continue to fight against social injustices against the black community. Throughout the movie, topics of division, inclusion, and learning compassion and developing the ability to view others’ perspectives are presented during the film which are important lessons for everyone to learn. As we follow Eugenia Phelan, a white woman who is an ally to the black community, and her journey to getting the story out about how the help is treated, we learn about the hurdles black people have fought to overcome.
