Honestly Ben by Bill Konigsberg is the sequel to Openly Straight, but instead of being Rafe’s point of view, the point of view is Ben’s as he struggles to figure out who he is, and what he likes. His journey of self discovery is engaging emotionally and is realistic to the real struggle of figuring yourself out as a young adult. This novel helped me as an LGBTQ+ teen, and I believe it can help several others. The defining of self, especially as a young adult, is very very difficult. This book can help people figuring themselves out feel less alone, making it an essential read, along with its predecessor, for LGBTQ+ youth.
