The Hunger Games is a very interesting read for anyone looking for a good book. Written by Suzanne Collins, The Hunger Games trilogy explores the life of Katniss Everdeen, a sixteen-year-old girl who lives in the future. In this future, there are twelve districts in which people live in, with the Capitol controlling over all. Katniss lives in District Twelve where she is particularly poor, like most other people in the district. She survives with her mother and sister by hunting through the woods and trading the game for food in the market. The Capitol does little to help out, which adds to the citizens' anger. In addition to this, the Capitol hosts the annual Hunger Games, an event that involves two people in each of the twelve districts (a boy and a girl) fighting to the death for the Capitol’s entertainment. As it just so happens, Katniss finds herself in one of the games. Katniss and Peeta Mellark (the boy that was chosen for the Hunger Games in District Twelve) head to the Capitol for the games under their mentor Haymitch Abernathy. Competing in the games against those much stronger and talented than Katniss proves to be a challenge, and the games become very difficult at some points. This all leads to a very unorthodox ending to the 74th annual Hunger Games, and creates all the more drama and action for the remaining books to come. This series is a great read full of action, drama, and adventure that will be sure to give you a wild ride. So for those looking for books, engage yourself in the compelling trilogy of The Hunger Games.---E.R.  grade 8
