Join professors Lloyd Kaplan and Dr. Tom Shaker for a four-part series on the history of country music on Wednesdays, on March 5, 12, 19 & 26 at 2 p.m.
Country music began in the 1920s in the rural south and gave hope to America during the Great Depression with songs by Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, and the Carter Family. In the 1950s and 1960s, country music became an industry with artists like Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson, and it continues to grow in popularity today.
Lloyd Kaplan is a musician, Professor Emeritus in the CCRI music department, and an instructor for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Dr. Tom Shaker is a radio DJ, a documentary filmmaker, and an expert on Rhode Island jazz.
This event is free and open to all.
