The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway is a book that explores postwar World War One and the “Lost Generation” which was a group of people who were lost and disorientated after World War One. These characters and events in the book were based on real people and events in Hemingway’s life. The plot involves exploring the lives of Jake Barnes, an expatriate American who lives in Paris, and his friends who navigate their lives after World War One. Barnes and his friends are living difficult lives and struggle to a direction in their lives after experiencing the horrors of war. The book takes a deep look into the mental health of the people who had served and how people had felt after serving in the war. This book made me realize that while I was worried about what war would cause to the people outside of the war, that I had completely forgotten what the people fighting and serving in the war felt. I think this book is an excellent read as it examines just what war does to people and how much damage it can cause to a human psych.
