The Walking Dead Compendium 1 is a gigantic collection of the first 40 issues of the Walking Dead Comic series. I watched the AMC Walking Dead show, and when the current season ended, I decided to give the comics a try and see if I would like them. It turned out to be a very different experience, due to the fact that the comic takes a very different route than the show does. I found that I ended up enjoying the storyline in the first 40 issues of the comics than the first seasons of the tv show. Robert Kirkman's characters and how they react to the world around them and each other's actions were captured much better in the comic than in the show. The art is very unique as well. Tony Moore drew the first 6 issues, and then passed the baton over to his friend Charlie Adlard who illustrated the remainder of the series. The Walking Dead’s art style has a strange cartoony style to it, while still keeping the realistic look that you would expect from a zombie apocalypse story. For some reason, the art style makes the scenes of gore and action even more intense/horrifying. I give the book a 10/10. It gave me a breath of fresh air in a series that was sort of getting stale for me. I highly recommend this, and the other 3 compendiums that contain the rest of the story to anyone who is a fan of the show and wants more. It gives you a different cast of characters sometimes and certain story elements happen differently than in the tv adaptation, and I think many people will find it compelling even after watching the series on tv.
